“This time I am going to beat you!!” Yaguri and his brother, Rio, had always grown up playing ninja. Yaguri was 9 and Rio was 15. Rio had been a “real” ninja for quite some time but he always took time to go and play with Yaguri. Rio was carrying Yaguri on his back and was headed to the top of a hill where they always hung out. Yaguri looked up to his brother as a role model and wanted to be just like him. Rio had something on his mind and Yaguri could tell. He had been this way ever since yesterday when they had gone to the fair. Rio had gone in to a gypsy’s booth and had his fortune told. Yaguri was not old enough and so he could not go in. Whatever she told him was what he had been thinking about for the last day and a half.
It was a bright summer day and the air was warm. Yaguri had made two kunai out of wood and was now trying to fight Rio. It was evident that Yaguri was outmatched by his brother who could just as easily appear behind him and strike but he never did. He made sure to go slow and easy to let it be fun for Yaguri. Yaguri had even cut up some material and colored a ninja headband on it because Rio would never let him wear his.
Hours had gone by and they were now lying under the tree that was at the top of the hill. Their mother would have lunch ready soon and so they got up to head back. “When I become a real ninja, I am going to beat you!!! I will have my own kunai, my own ninjutsu and my headba-” Yaguri looked up at his brother who had turned to look at something. Yaguri moved out from behind his brother to see what it was that he was looking at. A deep mist was rolling down from the hill. It was thicker than any mist he had ever seen. From within the mist, a dark figure could be seen.
A strange colored burst exploded from the mist heading right toward them both. Yaguri crossed his arms in front of himself as if to block the attack. Yaguri opened his eyes to see his brother standing in front of him with a force field around them both. Yaguri looked up at his brother to see that his eyes were completely black. Yaguri had never seen his brother use his jutsu and was wondering what it was that he was doing. The blast had cleared enough of the mist away to see a young man cloaked by a black robe and hood. The man advanced down the hill with great speed but was blocked once again by Rio. Rio turned his head to Yaguri... “Run!!!” Yaguri turned to run but turn to look back at what was happening. Both the stranger and Rio were exchanging blows of this strange energy that he had used to shield them both. Yaguri tripped on a rock while he was looking at them. He fell to the ground, scraping his knee. He shouted in pain which caused the stranger to look at him. He raised his right hand and sent another one of those blasts at him. Rio quickly made another force field around Yaguri that blocked the attack but while he did this, it gave the intruder a chance to strike, which he took.
Rio was blasted into the air and landed next to Yaguri. Rio knew that he could not protect them both from this man. He leant over to Yaguri and said “Take care of mom and dad for me…” As he said this, he placed his hand on Yaguri’s chest and sent a strange energy through him. Yaguri screamed in pain and blacked out.
When he awoke… he looked around. It was now dark and the moon was out. He could hear people shouting his and his brother’s names. He looked at the hill where the mist had been. It was now gone but something else was there. His brother was leaning against the tree. Yaguri ran up to him... “You did it, you bea-” Yaguri had thought that is brother was leaning against the tree but was actually held in place by a sword that went through him. Yaguri collapsed on the ground and began to cry….

Yaguri looked down at his brother’s coffin as it was being lowered into it, tears rolling down his face. He held his mother's hand as she wept. His father was also crying but would not take the time to comfort his mother. Many of the villagers had gathered there to morn over the loss of Rio. Rio was loved by everyone… even the meanest of the kids liked him. Yaguri remembered the time that he was being picked on by some bullies for having origami jutsu. They said that it was a girly justu that could never even hurt someone. They dansed around laughing and yelling "oww a paper cut!!!" in a sarcastic manner. Rio heard of what was going on at his school and ecided to talk to the kids. Rio explained to them how apare could be a deadly weapon and that they realy shouldn't make fun of Yaguri because even the classroom's paper supply could be used against them. They never bothered Yaguri again. Rio was a role model for many people and now… he was dead.
A few days had passed since Rio had died. Yaguri’s parents were devastated by what had happened. Yaguri’s father had locked himself in his lab and wouldn’t even come up for supper. Rio was his dad’s favorite; a living prodigy. Rio had graduated from the class as the number one rookie and had managed to become a chunin the next month. He had never seen his brother's jutsu but had heard that it was incredible. It was hard living in his brother’s shadow… but now.......
Yaguri’s mother had stopped talking and found it hard to look at Yaguri, who looked so much like Rio. She was on antidepressants and stayed in her room most of the day with all the lights off. She used to be very happy and kind. She would wait for them to return from their school or missions, with a cake of some sort. She was the one that taught Yaguri how to manipulate paper. he remembered the first time he saw her do this... she had been doing arts and crafts with him and decided to show him. Yaguri marveled at the paper butterfly as she made it glide across the room. But now she would no longer smile or feel happiness. Yaguri was also hurting but knew that he had to stay strong for his mother’s sake. He put on a smile even when he cried at night. He would draw to calm himself and would draw worlds where nothing bad ever happened.
Yaguri was sitting at the kitchen table and was drawing another picture. He wasn’t very good but knew that this would cheer his mother up. She was always happy when he drew her a picture and would mount it on the fridge to show it off. He had used his crayons to draw a picture of their house with his family standing outside, holding hands. His father was standing on the end, holding his mother’s hands which lead to Yaguri. Yaguri was holding his mother’s hand and his brother’s hand. He had drawn his brother flying above him and as an angel. He held it up and admired it. It was poorly done, but he would still be praised for it's creativity. He got up and pushed in his chair. "Mom!! I made something for you!!" Yaguri ran down the hall towards her room. As he turned the corner to his mother’s room he yelled “Mommy, look what I dre-” A loud bang went off as a gun was fired. Yaguri dropped his drawing on the floor… Blood soon soaked the page.

It was raining as Yaguri looked over at where his brother was buried and then back at his mother’s grave. Yaguri’s mother had ended her own life, drowned in her grief. He stood there with his father and looked down. The funeral had just ended and now they were alone. His father had a strange expression as he stared blankly at her grave. He did not cry. Yaguri reached up to hold his hand but as he did, his father pulled away and walked out of the cemetery. Yaguri stood there alone.
His dad had once again locked himself in his lab and wouldn’t come out. Yaguri slid food under the door but the food was never touched. He could hear his father working, which he usualy did to when he was stressed. Yaguri didn’t go back to school and the teachers were ok with that because of what he went through. He wanted to see his friends but knew that he was not ready to face them. They would look at him with pity and apologize fr nothing. Yaguri cleaned the house and would then go to his room and cry. This habit continued for about a week until one morning.
Yaguri awoke to the sound of someone moving about in the dark. It must have been at least one o’clock in the morning. Yaguri descended the stairs and found the lab door open and his dad packing his things. “What are you doing?” Yaguri asked. His father ignored him as if he wasn’t even there. He was mumbling and Yaguri could not make out what he was saying. His dad finished gathering his things and opened the door. “Where are you going?” He did not answer. Yaguri raced out of the door after him and began to cry. “Where are you going!?” Yaguri ran into the woods after his father. “Dad!!! Where are you going? Why are you leaving me?” Yaguri grabbed his hand only to have it ripped out of his grip. His father turned around. He did not look like himself and seemed almost mad. “I am not your father!!! Rio is my only son!!! He could have survived had it not been for you!!!And your mother!!! She killed herself because she could not stand to look at you!!!” Yaguri’s father turned away as Yaguri sank to the ground, tears flowing from his eyes. “Rio is my son… Rio is my son…. Rio is my son….” He continued to mumble as he walked away, into the darkness of the forest. Leaving Yaguri alone again…
Yaguri walked back home with a blank stare on his face. He had stopped crying and was now in shock. He went into his brother’s old room and curled up in his bed. He awoke the next day and knew what he must do. Yaguri went into his father lab and gathered all the scrolls on the family’s jutsu. He packed only a sandwich, a blanket, what little money he had and the scrolls. He stopped at his mother’s grave and placed an origami swan on it. She had taught him how to make one once and he had kept it ever since. He then moved to his brother’s grave. “It is my fault….” Yaguri was holding his brothers headband and clenched it tight. “I will change this world…. I will heal it of its chaos…” Yaguri knew what he must do…

Yaguri left the Rain Village and ended up traveling for a few years. In this time, he mastered his family’s jutsu and learned a few new ones along the way. Yaguri reached the Hidden Grass Village around 8:00 am on a Monday morning. The air was crisp and cool and the ground was moist and wet. Yaguri walked through the village gates and looked around. It was large but flat; not many large buildings. He had trouble getting through the guards again but the many fake identities served him once again. He walked up to the village’s hotel and got a room. As usual, the people he spoke to thought the he was too young to be traveling on his own and with so much money. Yaguri had done a few bounty jobs where he had to retrieve a person and collect the bounty that was on their head. It was a god job… but he wanted more.
After sleeping the night away, he ventured into a local restaurant and took a seat. The waitress was very polite to him but looked upon him in the most unusual way, as if she was trying to figure something out. As he ate his food, he noticed that the waitress was looking at him and talking to someone else in a hush voice. After ignored this and finished his meal. When he turned to leave, the waitress approached him.
“Excuse me…. But by chance are you related to Mikusi Nasari?” The waitress was very polite and it seemed odd to Yaguri that anyone would go up and ask some random person if they knew someone else.
“No I am afraid that I do not….”
“Oh sorry… it’s just that you look quite a bit like him. You have the same eyes and face.” The waitress was very embarrassed and Yaguri could tell quite easily.
“No I have never even heard of this man… who is he?”
The waitress seemed to perk back up and replied, “He is a famous scientist here who has created many things that have helped the village. But I swear….. Maybe he is your far distant uncle that you have never heard of because you look so much like him… well… I have to get back to work; it was nice to meet you.” And with that, she left.
Yaguri left the shop and continued to explore the village. He pondered over what had just occurred. Could it be that his father was here? He had never heard or seen him again since he was abandoned. He had assumed that he had just run off and died somewhere. But maybe he had traveled all the way to this village and started experimenting on things. It would be something that he would do… however, the death of his brother and mother had done the worst to him and Yaguri doubted that he would have gotten over it that easily. Yaguri went to bed that night knowing that the next day, he would find this Mikusi Nasari and see whether his suspicions were true. What would he say… what would he do? Yaguri drifted into a dark sleep as images of his family passed through his head.
Yaguri awoke to the abrupt shaking of the hotel. The room was shaking and everything was crashing to the ground. As soon as it stopped, Yaguri rushed outside where many other villages were. A few houses had fallen over and only a few people seemed to be hurt. Was it an earthquake? No… Yaguri had felt an immense amount of chakra being used at the time. Yaguri thought that it would be best if he got a better look at the village. Yaguri pulled out a piece of paper and folded it with his chakra. He then threw it on the ground and made it grow. He stepped onto the large paper eagle as it flew up into the night sky. He could see many lights just starting to come on and could see that a few more houses had been destroyed. Something then caught his eye. At the edge of the village was a large crater. Yaguri soared down to the crater and could see that it was an underground house that had collapsed. As he got closer, he could sense the strange chakra that he had felt before. The darkness of the night made it very hard to see, but Yaguri could very well make out the image of a young man, walking away from the crater. The person that he saw was completely nude and seemed to be a little older than Yaguri. The stranger must have sensed Yaguri’s presence because he stopped and began to turn. And just as he turned around, the moonlight caught his face to reveal someone he knew….
“Rio…?”

“Where am I…….”
“What is this……”
A dull green light shown through his eyes as he opened them. He moved his fingers to find himself submerged in a lime green liquid that seemed heavier than reqular water. His vision was blurry but he could still make out the images that his eyes gave him. He was encased in a large dome object filled with the green gel and had several cords and cables connected to him in several places. Connected to these cables were large machines that showed information that scrolled down the screens. The floor was also swarmed with cables and it seemed as if he was the centerpiece. He could hear the sound of people talking amongst them selves. It took several minutes before he could make out where they were.
A young woman with heavy blue eyes was speaking to an elder man, who looked tired and worn down. She turned and faced him within the dome and said something. He still could not understand what it was that they were saying, but could sense that it had disturbed the old man. His vision darkened as he closed his eyes and drifted into another sleep.
Several images flashed into his head as he dreampt. The laugh of a boy…. An explosion that sent him pains shooting through his body…. And bloodied hands…... His head seared with pain as if on fire. He awoke with the pain and screamed within the liquid that was now boiling. The screens on the machines flickered information that seemed to scroll rapidly. He reached for his head in agony as some of the cables were ripped off. He could hear the man run back and forth from machine to machine in a worried frenzy. At the moment that the pain reached an unmeasurable level, he open his eyes. They were now jet black and not even the white could be seen. At that same moment, the glass dome exploded…..
His naked body lay on the cold floor; the liquid running out of the shattered case and across the floor. Sparks snapped every ten seconds and the broken machines lay to waist. The old man brushed pieces of rubble off of himself and removed several shards of glass and steel from his arms while rushing over to the naked boy that lay wet on the ground.
“My son…. You have returned to me.”
The man took off his lab coat and placed it on the boy. He knelt down infront of him and went still.
“Rio….. my son.”
He lay under the coat curled in a ball and thought to himself. “Rio…. Yes….. I am Rio…… Dad……” Like a forgotten dream, he started to remember bits and pieces. The pain in his head started again as more images filled his mind. He could see a young woman with a smile on her face... a deck of cards, and then an image of a sword impaled in his chest.
“No……”
The pupils in his eyes grew once again to show only the two black marbles as his eyes. He reached up and grabbed the old man’s neck. “This is not my life…..”
The green liquid rose up in small droplets as he squeezed the old man. The cords rose up as if floating and everything else did the same. The man reached for his neck and struggled to free himself from the boy’s grip. The man gasped for air as the hand tightened like a vice. The boy raised his face so that he could look into the man’s eyes. The old man looked scarred and his eyes twitched a they started to role back into his head.
“NOOOO!!!!!”
A wave of energy burst from his body and everything within the room was sent flying away from him. The building exploded and left him sitting in a crater. The old man could be seen several feet away, a large sharp piece of debris stuck out of his stomach and blood trickled down it like a small stream. The boy stood and moved toward the higher ground. He staggered and lost his balance as if he had never walked before. After maintaining his balance again, he pulled himself up ot of the hole and walked towards the forest. As he walked, he could feel the presence of someone. The feeling was familiar but very strange. He turned his head to see a boy of his own age, flying a atop a large paper eagle.....

The two met each others eyes in a iron grip lock. The steady breeze of the wind and the drumming beat of the paper birds wings were all that could be heard. They starred at eachother for what seemed like hours but was only seconds.
Rio gripped his head again in pain as more images flashed through his mind. Every time he gained a piece of his memory, it was like a thousand daggers of pain. He knelt to the ground with his knees against his chest, covering his naked body, and yelled in agony. He looked up with one hand on his face that covered an eye, which was now completely black again. He raised him arm up as if it was injurred and faced his palm towards Yaguri. A small black and purple sphere grew inches away from his palm. Speckles of dirt flew from the ground and into the sphere. The orb soon grew to the size of a small baseball and shot from Rio’s hand.
Yaguri was dumbstruck… his brother was dead…. He had seen his body and had been at the funeral. Yet this boy looked just like him. He seemed to be in pain as he reached for his head and as his legs gave way. This was infact Rio… the growing orb proved it. It was the same strange energy that he and the killer had used to fight eachother with. The orb flew at Yaguri at rapid speed and dragged loose object along towards it as it approached. The origami eagle twisted to the left and avoided the ball of energy just in time.
“Rio!!! Stop!!! It’s me!!! It’s Yaguri!!!”
His word seemed to have little effect on Rio, for he sent several more balls of energy at him with the greatest of forces. The rocks and loose objects around Rio started to levitate… and he himself lifted off the ground. Still hugging his knees, he floated in the air that was now spiraling around him. Something beneath the skin of his back moved…. Rio dodged the spheres of energy but noticed that they were becoming stronger and stronger. It became harder for him to dodge them because they seemed to be pulling everything, including himself, into it’s center. The gustling winds made it hard to fly and caused him to use more chakra to keep in the air. He yelled at Rio several more times but once again, it did nothing. It was as if he could not hear him. The skin on his back moved and seemed to bulge, as if someingthing wanted out. Yaguri was now being pulled into the spot where Rio was. He watched as several twigs and rocks the size of basketballs, flew through the air twards Rio and spun rapidly around him as they grew nearer. In one single motion, Rio released himself from his ball and sent his limbs reaching out in oposite directions. A wave of energy shot out from him like a growing pulse. It blasted everything around him outwards as it grew.
Yaguri had managed to create a large wall of paper that was infused with his own chakra just before the blast had reached him. The energy pushed the wall back and it slammed into Yaguri and his eagle and slammed him against the ground. Hepushed himself off of the ground and whiped the blood from his head. While hitting the ground, a small rock had penetrated his paper wall and had struck him in the head. He looked over where the energy had started to see Rio still in the air. Blood trickled down his legs as two large black wings, speckled with blood, pertruded from his back. They had ripped the skin open on his back and purged themselves from him. Rio’s pain subsided and he suddenly felt weak. He fell from the sky and hit the ground in a thud. He also looked over at Yaguri and winched in pain. They continued to stare at one another untill Yaguri’s vision went dark…
Rio struggled to lift himself from the ground. His arms and legs felt very weak to himself and he collapsed several more times before he was finaly able to stand. He looked over at Yaguri and then moved towards the darkness and dissapeared into the forest.
