| Name: Gokunetsu Reika Nickname/Alias: None yet Age: 17 Age Appearance: 19 Appearance: Gokunetsu Reika stands at a height of 5'4, and has silky, long, dark-brown hair, which falls down to the small of her back, and most times she keeps it in a ponytail. Her bangs are trimmed to almost a straight line over her eyebrows, and surprisingly, a few of the locks thereof are naturally pink. She has gentle, emerald-colored eyes and is generally considered quite good-looking. Reika has a slim, almost delicate build although she does have her curves in the right places, and is quite naturally well endowed. In the way of clothing, Reika wears a dark-blue, long-sleeved dress which starts a good way below her shoulders, revealing a good deal of her cleavage. The dress is rimmed at the sleeves and the shoulders with ash-colored fur, and a fishnet material which starts above the fur, with a zipper running all the way from top to bottom of the dress. The dress goes down to almost her knees, but is cut quite open at the sides to reveal much of her hips, although there is fishnet material which covers her right hip. Reika's forehead protector is tied on top of her head in a sort of Alice-band fashion. The fabric is ash in color. She carries her weapon holster strapped to back, so that one wouldn't see it if he was facing her. Reika wears almost knee-high ninja shoes and has three piercings on each ear, one on her lower lip and one on her navel. Gender: Female Skill Level: B Ninja Rank: Chuunin Village: Konohagakure Birthplace: Konohagakure Previous Village: None Clan/Bloodline: None Personality: Understanding the meaning of her names is an easy way to gain insight to Reika's personality. 'Gokunetsu' means extreme heat, while 'Reika' means sub-zero temperature. Getting ideas? Reika appears to be an extremely spontaneous and unpredictable person, and it is difficult for even those who know her well to point out what she's going to do next. She can be feisty and petulant and all over the place one moment, and reticent, quiet and amazingly shy before you can say her name in the next minute. This makes most people think she has split personalities, but this isn't so, as the things that can make her tick are constant. Another constant thing about her is the fact that she is actually a gentle, kind and caring person (much of the time, her noisy behavior is a facade), and forgives easily when wronged. Since she was rather lonely during her early days, Reika likes company, no matter her mood, and is quite a loyal friend; she will do almost anything possible to keep the friends she makes. She views bonds as sacred, and can get easily miffed when someone messes with a friend. Concerning her village, according to Reika, Konoha is a giant family, having come through the ages of war and strife and managing to remain intact. Its ideals, set down by all the previous Hokages, are precious to her. As a result, she believes strongly in the Will of Fire, and will sacrifice herself readily for Konoha and its inhabitants. Reika, regardless of her moods, does not believe in laws and order, and usually goes out of her way to break laws, unless the effects will hurt others. As a result, she can be extremely mischievous and hard to control, and usually gets her kicks from annoying 'straight to the rules' people. If she is given an order, and she doesn't like it or it clashes with her ideals, she will discard it without second thought and opt for what suits her. However, if cooperation is truly necessary, she can be a very good follower. Although Reika is a bit shy, she has decent social skills and a relatively good sense of humor. She loves aesthetics and nature, especially flowers, and she is always smelling of one flower or another. Reika hates dirt, enclosed spaces and she cannot stand vermin or dirty people. Perverts, well, she can tolerate them a bit, although she would rather run away. Though Reika is not the leader type, she is very analytical, and is capable of coming up with decent strategies and ideas, even in the heat of battle. Despite her wild nature, she is quite a good team player, and one can have faith in her that she has the interests of her team at heart. She is also very optimistic and strong willed (one of her biggest faults), and will never surrender or concede defeat. To her, giving up means death. Goals: To reach a level where she would outshine her brother by a great margin. To get strong enough to protect Konoha. To determine the secrets within the Gokunetsu scrolls. Alignment: Good (but quite chaotic) Canon Personality: Skill Specialty: Dominant: Ninjutsu Recessive: Medic Elemental Affinity: Dominant: Lightning Recessive: Water History: Gokunetsu Reika was born as the third and last child to a family of very highly aspiring shinobi, who regarded excellence as their watchword. Her father, Gokunetsu Kane, was an ANBU captain, while her mother, Gokunetsu Hana, was quite a talented jounin. The eldest of the Gokunetsu kids, Gou, at nine was already a chuunin, and her immediate elder brother, Gokunetsu Shin, at six years old was already completing the Shinobi Academy. Unfortunately, Hana died at Reika's birth, and so it was naturally expected that the gentle, emerald-eyed child of the Gokunetsu family would take over from her mother and be a natural achiever. They were all so wrong. From the get-go, Reika was so unaggressive and gentle, even as a baby, and she cried little and demanded less. Her attitude was odd to the rest of the family, but they assumed that as she grew, she would outgrow the strange temperament she displayed. But as Reika grew, she only got 'worse'. She was so complacent and accepted everything that came her way without complaining or striving for a better thing. Very hateful and unacceptable, coming from a line of excellent performers. As a result of this Reika was usually punished, mistreated and taunted mercilessly by her family, but she did not change. However, only Gou was always nice to her, even though this action was frowned on by his father. Unknown to the family, Gou resented Kane because Kane had forced him to live a life that was not his, and though he was quite talented as a shinobi, he had wanted to be an artist. In time, Reika's family grew to hate her (except Gou), and if not for Gou, it was highly probable that she would have been disowned. But since Gou was there for Reika, she still bore the hardship quietly and patiently. The years were horrible for her, but she still managed to go on, building a will of iron as they passed. Since she came from a family of ninja, she had no choice but to enroll in the Shinobi Academy, at a rather 'late' age of 9, and even there, she found no respite, as her instructors were always expecting her to live up to the standards of her elder brothers, and always getting disappointed. But the worst was yet to come. When she was eleven, the cementing force of the family, Gou, went on a mission and was killed. His corpse was returned to Konoha. As was expected, the Gokunetsu family broke into irreparable fragments. Reika was immediately ostracized, and although she still wasn't disowned, Kane forbade her from standing in his presence again. But the straw that broke the camel's back was the Gokunetsu family scroll, which had been passed down for about nine generations by a seal of blood. It was special in that it had a seal which protected its secrets, and the seal could only be opened by one whose blood had been used to craft it. The seal was always renewed just before it was handed down to the Gokunetsu successor, and only the predecessor and the successor could open the scroll. The predecessor had the prerogative of changing successors as he saw fit. The scroll had been returned intact with Gou's corpse, and so Kane took it to perform the sealing rites that would make Shin the next successor of the scroll, since Gou had died. But to his shock and horror, he could not open the scroll. It only meant one thing: that Gou had already done a handing down. But who could the next successor be? Kane didn't want to think it, but it could be true, his reject of a child could have been the one that Gou handed down to. Using a psychometric jutsu he had learned in the ANBU, he realized his fears: Gou had done the unthinkable. According to him, the Gokunetsu family was ruined, and in a single day. Without a word, he locked himself up in his room and committed suicide. Shin himself was enraged. Here was his chance to become the Gokunetsu successor, and it had been foiled. He resolved to take a life, like his father, but it would not be his. In the dark night, Shin crept up to Reika's bed while she was asleep and grabbed her throat. He could have easily broken her neck or stabbed her with a kunai, but in his bitterness he wanted her to suffer slowly before she died. However, that was his undoing. As Shin attempted to choke the life out of his sister, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He drew back to see Reika holding a kunai and he knew his life was over. Because the kunai she held was a customized kunai, one that belonged to Gou, and Gou was known to always poison his weapons with a deadly venom. When Gou had died, Reika had kept the weapon close to her as a memento from him, not knowing how valuable that action would be to her. And fortunately, by a sheer stroke of luck, this memento had saved her life. Shin charged her with a cry but the toxin's effects kicked in and he stumbled. He was dead in five seconds. When morning came, Reika was interrogated about the deaths of her remaining family members, and then she was left alone, as it was discovered that none of the events that had occurred was really her fault. For about two years, Reika suffered from depression, and even was already entertaining ideas to kill herself, when she received a letter that came by post, which had certain and specific instructions to be mailed two years after Gou's death. In the letter, Gou explained why he had made her the successor, in a bid to spite his father, and give her a reason to prove herself to the world that she wasn't a failure. He also stated that she hadn't received the note earlier, as he wanted to make sure that he had passed on the scrolls to a fighter, one who wouldn't give up on life, no matter what, and who was capable of maintaining the family's secrets. The final words requested that Reika not join ANBU, but still manage to surpass him. Refueled by the note, Reika decided to continue living. She had met with failure and disappointment one time after another, and she was determined to change all that and prove she was indeed a fighter, at least for Gou's sake, as he had given her so great a gift, the scrolls of the Gokunetsu family. Returning to the Shinobi Academy, although late, Reika focused hard on her studies and training, and in time she graduated to become a genin. It was while mingling with the shinobi of Konoha that Reika began to understand and admire the virtues and ideals that upheld Konoha's spirit. Through the missions and training that characterized her genin days, Reika grew to have a deep-seated love for her village, and the desire to protect it. This was when she decided on her second goal. She would train hard till she became someone the village could depend on. In time, the Chuunin Examinations came around, and Reika participated, managing to pass the exams by an extremely thin margin. Now she has spent about a year plus as a chuunin, but her goals are yet unaccomplished. They're quite a long way off, but they're still attainable. RP Sample: - Spoiler:
As the crowd cheered wildly, Reika's heart throbbed like never before. It was like she was going to have a cardiac arrest or die from the pressure building within her chest. She gulped nervously as she descended the steps and came out of the shade and into the sun, where her opponent was walking towards her, dragging his feet slowly and looking for all the world like he hadn't had any sleep. As soon as he saw her, his expression changed to an unreadable one, although he seemed slightly pissed. "Ugh! A woman! How troublesome," he said, sighing almost simultaneously. "If I was to fight a man, I'd just have given up, but dad said I must never lose to a girl. What an unfortunate man I am! How troublesome." Reika clenched her fists and yet said nothing. Maybe he was trying to throw her off balance.
The jounin examiner stepped up between the two and looked at each of them, then announced, "The examination battle between Nara Shikazen and Gokunetsu Reika will now commence!" Immediately, Reika pumped chakra into her feet to give herself a boost to jump backwards and away from the boy. Shikazen yawned but made no move. So this was a Nara. Reika had heard that the Nara were capable of doing terrible things with their shadows, but she'd never seen any of them in action, until now. And if Shikazen was anything to go by, then the Nara were really not very impressive... yet. "Why don't you just give up, since I'm not interested in this battle," the boy said dryly. Reika responded by pulling two kunai out of her weapon holster and throwing them at him. Shikazen sighed and jumped backwards, away from the shuriken. Man, he was really annoying. Reika really wanted to make him move around a bit more, if possible, wipe that stupid expression off his face. And for that, she had an idea.
If the Nara indeed used shadows, perhaps she could attempt to manipulate shadows herself, but in ways the Nara boy wouldn’t expect. She began running towards him, a kunai at the ready. In response, he did a strange handseal, one that the Academy folk had probably forgotten. And then his shadow shot forward. ”What the…?” she said in surprise, as she stepped to the side, narrowly missing the shadow. Surprisingly, the shadow turned, obviously following her, so she did a flip the other way, and did another chakra enhanced jump. The shadow receded. Reika smiled. ”I’m learning something,” Reika said triumphantly. ”That’s the limit of your shadow, right?” ”Maybe I should just give up,” Shikazen replied. ”No, I can’t. Dad is watching… uwaah!” A kunai narrowly missed him, as he sidestepped just in time. But there was a light bomb attached to the weapon, and as it struck the ground, it went off, casting his shadow a long way off to the right, while giving Reika an opportunity to come in from the left without being at risk of the shadow. Spinning on her heel, Reika shot out her leg, aiming a roundhouse for his head. But rather than dodge it, Shikazen blocked.
Reika’s elation at having an attack connect turned to shock, when she discovered that her body suddenly stopped moving. ”What’s going on?” she asked in surprise. The match couldn’t be over so soon! Shikazen made a sound between a choke and a chuckle. ”Well, it’s a win-lose situation, really. You’ve managed to break my wrist, and I’ve managed to snag your shadow. Questions?”
Reika grimaced in helpless anger. She had lost the battle, it seemed, but she had learned something. That in the shinobi world, nothing was ever as it seemed, and she would do well to remember it.
