| -Chapter One- - Spoiler:
It’s a warm sunny day. Me and my family live 10 miles away from the capital city in the kingdom of Leenor, in a small village called Ureck. 2 weeks shy of my 7th birthday, when the kingdom of Leenor was at war with Parton, a island kingdom. My older brother, signed up for the royal guard right after the first attack. After he travelled to the capital, we never heard from him again. It was like he never existed in the village after the war was over.
Oh, yeah, I never introduced myself, nor my family. The name’s Joseph Leroy, middle child of 5 children. My oldest brother, Roy, was the one who went away during the war, he would be 28 now. Roy had dirty blond hair, green eyes, which was odd enough, and he was roughly, 6 foot when I was little. He has a muscular build, and a deep voice, almost like Father Rome, but higher.
My other older brother, is Deking. He’s a apprentice blacksmith in the next town over. He visits sometimes, but not often enough, he’s 19, 2 years older then me now. Deking has dirty blond hair, more blond then the rest of the males in the family. Muscular build, and roughly 6 foot as well.
Then, my younger sisters, who are twins, but look nothing like each other. One, has black wavy hair, with dark brown eyes, and the other has golden blond curly hair, with blue eyes. Sabrina(the blond) and Jasmine(the brunette). They’re both the same height, 4 foot. They look delicate and sensitive, and it’s true for Sabrina, but not for Jasmine. Jasmine is almost tomboyish, but for her...developed body, it’s hard for her to be tomboyish. They’re 16, and born a day apart, yet they are twins.
My mother and father are farmers, hence, why we live in the country. My father is 6 foot 3, muscular build, and was once in the military. He has dark brown hair, with light brown eyes. He has a rough voice, that would make your spine chill, and has hands that could break your skin by touching it. But his personally is nothing like his figure. Quiet, gentle, almost, shy. But that’s how he is, and he’s 50, last January. My mother on the other hand, she’s the one you always want to stay happy.
Make her mad, and you’ll die. She’s a short blond, short, I mean, 4 foot 4, and a feline build, like the ones you see in the noblewoman. She’s a nice person, but quick tempered. Her eyes are blue, like the sky, and her cooking is the best in the village. She’s 49, this March.
Then, there is me. Jak, 17, medium build, about 5 foot 5. Dark short hair, with dark brown eyes. I’m basically a lazy person, who didn’t really do anything at all to be seen by anyone. I’ve helped my dad around the farm, and helped my mom in the kitchen to make food for us all. But nothing to really stand out in the village.
That’s why I decided to travel, but no idea when, or where. Or even how. Life here on the farm was boring, nothing to do except watch corn grow and watch the grass get cut by the crazy neighbour Uncle Jar. I’m not related to Uncle Jar, but thats what we call him. The reason behind the “Jar” part, is because he always has a spit jar with him.
I would sneak off the farm from time to time, just to hang around Ninth Rock, it’s a giant rock, with 8 other smaller rocks surrounding it. It’s pretty much where I’m always at, if I’m not on the farm, or in the house, I’m at the rock, sitting on the highest part, and looking over the county. “Nice breeze ain’t it?” said a girls voice, coming from the bottom of the rock.
The voice startled me, and I fell off the rock, but into a bush, cushioning my landing. When I got up onto my feet, I looked around for the girl who scared, I mean... surprised me. I looked around from the bush, then I went to the other side, looking for her. She was no where to be found, so I just forgot about it and went home.
It roughly takes, 25 minutes - 30 minutes to get home. But today, it took longer, because there was a lot of soldiers on the road, and not ones from this kingdom. I was told by my parents, that if you get spotted by one, they will capture you and then torture you. Shortly after that, they will kill you, after you serve a purpose.
So, I had to hide from them. I choose to hide in a tree, which was easy enough for me to climb, then I waited roughly 5-10 minutes, seemed longer then that, for them to leave the area. Once they where gone, I ran to my home as fast as I could, without getting caught of course.
Once I made it there, it was, burnt. Everyone in the village of Ureck was killed, and houses where on fire. Burnt bodies piled outside each house. I was in shock, I don’t know how long I stood there, staring at the hell that was once my home town. I quickly ran to the farm house, and saw that it was perfectly fine, except a broken window.
I walked inside the house, and looked at the place, everything was out of its usual place. “Ma?! Pa?! Sabrina?! Jasmine?!” I called, searching the house, trying to see if I could at least find them. I spent 2 hours, looking around the house, from top to bottom, and no sign of them. I broke down, crying.
I walked out of the backdoor, and noticed the barn. I quickly ran over, and tackled open the door. I saw my dad, hanging from the ceiling. Noose around his neck, dead. I looked around, and found my mum, covered in blood, and dead. I started to cry again, but then I remembered to look for my sisters. They where no where to be found.
It was bittersweet news. Sweet, because they could not have been killed. Bitter, because that means the soldiers have them. I went into the house and packed a few clothes, some privations and I went into my father’s closet. I took his short sword, with it’s sheathe and attached it to my belt.
I took the two bags that I had prepared and went into the barn, and cut my father down from the ceiling. “Sorry I wasn’t here to help Pa...” I said, as I cleaned him of his blood, and closed his eyes. I went over to my mum, and cleaned her of her blood as well. “Sorry Ma..” I said, as I laid them next to each other. I went back into the house and grabbed a shovel.
I came out from the front, and buried everyone in town who was dead. By the time I was finished buring the dead, it was night time. I was tired, and went into the house. “I’ll leave tomorrow..” I told myself, walking up the stairs. I went into my room. The moonlight reached into my room and gave the atmosphere a eerie feeling. I walked over to my bed and sat down. It was different know. Nobody was here, nobody was alive. I looked out the window from my bed and saw the moon, coming over the tall trees in the distance. I slowly fell asleep, waiting for morning to come.
-Chapter 2- - Spoiler:
Morning arrived, I slowly sat up from my bed, looking out the window. The sun slowly crept above the trees. I got out of my bed, put on my clothes and walked downstairs. I looked in the cubbert and found nothing to eat, except bread. It was painful, to even look in the front of the house, facing the graves.
I went into the barn and put the saddle on the only horse that was still in the barn. It was a white and brown horse. My dad named her Marble. “Come on, we must leave this place... It’s no longer our home.” I said, softly to her, stroking her mane gently.
I strapped the saddle, and put the bags on the side. I got onto Marble and we walked through the streets of the burned village. The wind was slowly blowing, it was carrying the smell of burnt flesh. Marble started to walk a bit faster. I made a motion for her to run. “Heya!” I ordered, and with a quick jerk of the reign, we where off.
I didn’t know where we where headed, but it didn’t matter, as long as we weren’t there. It was quiet, since it was early in the morning, I expect at least some travellers. Marble was getting hungry by around, 9, so we stopped at a field just 2 kilometres off the main path.
Marble was eating the grass, when I unsheathed the short sword. I looked at the blade and swung it around. I needed to get use to using it, if I was to travel the country. I kept swinging it, and dashing around, pretending like I knew what I was doing. After about, 20 - 25 minutes of swinging the blade around, I got back up on Marble and went back onto the main path.
“Who’s that up the road?” I asked Marble, knowing I wouldn’t get a response from her, we just continued. I saw 3 figures, 1 was a woman, and the other 2 where male. We got a little closer before I could hear better. “Where is are money!?” screamed the man, holding a long sword, holding onto the girls arm. The other guy had a axe and looked like he was about the snap at any moment.
There was 3 horses, 2 black horses, one has a white spot on its leg and the other had a lighter coat then the other one. The third was dead, and had no head. I figured it was a completely brown horse, but who knows? I ushered to Marble to move slower, so they wouldn’t hear us quite yet.
The man with the axe looked like a grunt, compared to the man with the sword. But who knows. “Where is OUR money!?” screamed the man with the axe. “I-I don’t know!” screamed the girl, crying, and trying to break free from their grasp.
I knew I had to element of surprise. But I didn’t know what to do. Then, suddenly, four men, with brown cloaks on, came riding past me. “Halt!” screamed the one at the front of the pack. The two men quickly turned around and had expressions on their faces that look like they saw ghosts. “D-D-Djinn!” screamed the man with the sword, he dropped his sword out of fear and started to run off.
The man with the axe looked like he was going to fight back. I didn’t know what a ‘Djinn’ was, but it must have made bandits quite scared of them. The axe-man raised his axe over his head and was about to bring it down with what looked like would have been lightning speed. But then, all of a sudden, a small fire ball struck him in the stomach, burning his fur clothing and knocking him back.
One of the men rode on his horse and stabbed the axe-man with a spear. The axe-man, I would believe, was dead. The four “Djinn” rode off, after the swordsman. I ushered Marble to move forward, towards the girl. “Are you okay Miss?” I asked, reaching my hand out, to help her up. She looked at me and quickly looked away. “I’m fine!” she exclaimed, pushing my hand away and getting herself up.
She wore ragged clothing, and a cloak. “Umm... are you sure your okay?” I continued, dismounting my horse. She didn’t even get onto one of the other horses, instead, she picked the pockets of the dead axe-man. Taking everything she found in it. “Umm.. are you perhaps; a thief?” I said, with a worried tone. “No! I just take from the dead bandits on the road!” she said. Taking the bag on the dead horse and putting it on the dark grey horses back.
She got onto the back of the horse and started to move towards Ureck. “You won’t find much that way!” I exclaimed, hoping I would save her some worthless travel. “Why? and whats it to ya where I’m headed?” she said, turning her horse to face me. “Ureck’s been destroyed, and there isn’t another village that way until the boarder.” I said, looking at her shocked face.
She ushered the horse to move along the path until she was riding along side me. “What’s your name?” she asked, without even giving me some eye-contact. “Jak,” I said looking at her. “yours?” I continued. “Elizabeth Cowell.” “Last name? So your a mage?” “No, my father was.” she said, and we just continued riding for a good 3 miles. “A fork in the road? When did that happen?” I said, with a questionable look on my face.
It’s been so long since I was last on this road, that they built a second one? leading to another place? It didn’t really matter, because she continued on her way without even saying a word. “Hey!” I exclaimed. “Where does this road lead to?” I asked. She looked at me with a confused look. “Have you been living under a rock? This leads to Fort Tanko. One of the 3 greatest forts in our kingdom!” she exclaimed, with a giant grin. “You don’t plan on stealing from them, do you?” I asked her, giving her a questionable look. She gave me the evil eye.
“I don’t steal! I have a friend there who will help us out!” she screamed, and the horse galloped faster. I, just followed right behind her. If I could find someone who knew what happened to Ureck, maybe, they could help me find those responsible.
Fort Tanko was huge, and looked impenetrable. We continued to gallop until we reached about, 5 minutes walk from the door. We reached the door, and we looked around the entrance. “Where is the door guard?” She asked, I don’t know if I should respond or not. I’ve never been here before.
She got off her horse and walked over to a smaller door, in the corner of the larger door. She banged her fist against it sideways, at least. 4 times or more, I don’t know. “HELLLLLLLOOOOOO!!!!!!??????” she screamed as she was hitting the door. She reminded me of my sister Jasmine, but more spunky.
The door opened and a guard with blue hair looked at her. “Your back Miss Cowell?” said the guard, then she nodded and whispered to him. Then, he looked at me. “What’s your name?” he asked, walking out of the door with two other guards, and a bigger one blocking the door way. “My name is Jak, I’m from, or was from, Ureck; farming village for Fort Umma.” I proclaimed, and they looked at each other. “What news do you have from Fort Umma and Ureck?” asked the guard with blue hair.
I looked down. “Ureck has been destroyed, and I don’t know what happened to Umma. I’m sure it’s safe, being one of the three forts of our kingdom.” I said, looking at him. “Well... you may enter, the both of you.” he said, telling the other two guards to go back in. The giant door opens and me & Elizabeth both go in, riding our horses.
The first time I’ve ever been in a fort, and it had to be a GIANT fort! Me & Elizabeth put our horses in the stables and she guided me to a inn. The moment we stepped in, a large woman just screamed. “Eli! Your home!” she screamed, running over and hugging her. “And I see you brought home your boyfriend!” she said, elbowing me in the side, which hurt.
Elizabeth turned red in the face, from either anger, or embarrassment. “NO!” she screamed, the giant woman just seemed to be more confused. After Elizabeth told her what happened, she seemed to be... less confused. “So, what ya need Eli?” said the fat woman, scratching the back of her head. “I need a free room, for my friend here.” she said, with a coy smile. “Well.... since it’s you, I’ll allow it.” she said, turning around and walking away.
“Now, you have a room. Tomorrow, I’ll come and get you, so settle in for the night.” she said, and left. “O-Okay?” I stuttered, and walked down the hall. “LAST ROOM TO YOUR LEFT!” the fat woman screamed from the front. “Okay!” I yelled back, walking to my room. I opened the door and looked at the mess. “Pigsty...” I mumbled to myself.
I closed the door and put my stuff in the corner. I sat on the bed and looked out the window. It was already dusk, and I was hungry. Then, all of a sudden, the door opened. “FOOD!” screamed the fat lady. I just looked at her. “Thank you, Miss-?” I stopped, looking at her. “Helga, and its Mrs.” she said, leaving the room. On the table infront of me, was a piece of bread, some meat from a cow, and a glass of ale.
I quickly ate the food and drank the ale. “Man...what a day.” I said to myself, locking the door. “Quite something eh?” I said, walking over to the window and looking out of it. All of a sudden, I started to get sleepy. I closed the window and sprawled on the bed. “Sleepy....” I murmured. Falling asleep.
-Chapter 3- - Spoiler:
When I opened my eyes, I was standing in the centre of a town, and it was aflame. Everything was burning, the heat was making it look like it had waves fluttering about in the air. Screaming was everywhere, and the stench of blood and death was lingering in the air.
I looked around, seeing women and children getting beaten in the middle of the street. “Hey! Stop it!” I screamed, and was about to move, when I felt a strange feeling, coming from my back. Two figures standing alone infront of the statue.
“Sstop? But thiss iss what we live for!” said the smaller of the two figures, who was wearing a black cloak. “Live for? But your murdering innocent people!” I screamed, reaching for my swords hilt. But I looked, and nothing was there. “What?” I said to myself. “Heh-heh.” said the bigger of the two, a man wearing armour, with a helm on.
“Trying to fight back will not help you out, all you will do is run, run in fear of death! But I will find you!” sneered the armoured man, then a sharp pain struck in my back, and I collapsed on the ground. I felt a cold liquid running down my back, and the sharp pain grew into a pain I never felt before.
“IT HURTS SO MUCH!!!!!!” I screamed, holding my gut, then I rolled on the ground, and saw blood, and a woman holding a sword, covered with what would be my blood. “Yess...bleed...feed the dark dragonss.” slithered the cloaked man, as he approached. He went onto his knees and crept closer, to see my face. “You... are the sson of the dead oness?” continued the man, with his snake-like eyes and almost fang like teeth.
Then I awoke with a scream. “What kind of nightmare was that?” I asked myself, looking up at the window, noticing it was open. “I thought I closed it?” I murmured, getting up to close it, when suddenly, I was hit in the back of my head with something hard. I fell to the ground and the last thing I heard was “Night-night~” and a woman’s giggle.
When I awoke, I was in a dark candle lit room. There was only one candle, and it was behind a set of bars. Where, a man dressed like a soldier was sitting, he was reading a book, which was odd enough, because not many could read. Well, not many I knew besides me and my sisters and brother.
“Hey-” “Shut it!” “But-” “I said, SHUT IT!!” screamed the guard, who kept cutting me off. I sat up, and looked around, noticing the giant shadow against the wall. There was a bed, that was most likely recently made, and nothing else was in the cell.
A loud creaking noise was heard, coming from the distant darkness from the other side of the room. The guard stood up with sword and shield in hand. Seemed he was a paranoid one. A figure came from the shadows and the guard quickly stood down. “Sorry sir, I was just-” said the guard, before he was hit on the head with a book. “Shut up..” said the man, with blue hair.
“Hey! I remember you!” I said, quickly standing up and going closer to the bars. “Yeah, and I remember you.” He said, with a slight smile. He came closer and took the chair the guard was using and put it infront of the cell. “Have a seat, on your bed” he said, in a tone that sounded like a order. So I did, and I looked at him. The candle lit made half his face shine and the rest in darkness. It made the skin smooth, and have a certain glow to it.
“Why am I here?” I asked, in a polite tone, figuring this man must have important status. “You are here because your a outsider.” said the man with blue hair. “My name is Lieutenant Clark.” he said, closing his eyes. “My name is Jak.” I responded, trying to show as much politeness he has shown me.
“Why am I an outsider? I came here with Elizabeth.” I said, still, in a polite, but concerned tone. “Elizabeth is the daughter of our commander, she ran away from here and didn’t come back until yesterday.” he said, taking out a letter. “She’s being punished as we speak.” he continued, and handed me the letter. “You will be released once you are questioned.” He looked at me with a smile.
I walked over and took the letter. “Really? What do you want to know?” I said, as I sat back down. “What really happened to Ureck?” he said, with a frown. I just looked at him for a minute. I didn’t say anything, and he just sighed. “Look, I can’t let you go until you tell me what happened.” he said, while standing up from his chair.
“I told you before, it was aflame when I got home.” I said, with a tear in my eye. “Everyone was dead, including my parents.” I continued, and looked at him. He had a saddened face on. “I apologize for my rudeness, but I needed to know. Do you have any idea who caused the fire? And what where you doing at the time?” he continued to question me. “I don’t know who caused the fire, and I was at a special place of mine.” I said, remembering the rocks.
“Really? Well...that’s all I need to know, thank you for answering my questions.” he said, as he unlocked the door. He handed me my sword and escorted me out of the prison. It was at the bottom of the main building in the fort. Which, was also the home to the leader of the fort. “Wow...” is all I could say when I was the beauty of the home. It was like a palace from the inside. Everything was clean and looked like the palace from the story books that I read when I was younger.
When I looked at the noblemen and women, I couldn’t help but be amazed, because I’ve never seen them in person. I looked at all of them and they looked back, but in disgust. I didn’t care, I was too amazed by the looks of them all. Lieutenant Clark was following me around, and apologising to each of them, for my ‘rude behaviour’.
They would have kept looking at me, until a trumpet roared at the top of the stairs. “Announcing; Lord Cowell, and the return of his daughter, Lady Cowell!” screamed the trumpet player, moving aside to show a man dressed like a fancy general, and a girl who had her arm around his. When I looked at the girl, I could only see her. She had tanned fair skin, beautiful dirty blond hair, in a fancy fashion and a beautiful white dress.
But, she had a sad face, like she was miserable here. I couldn’t stop looking at her, and when the older guy whispered something to her, she looked at the audience. “It is good to be home...” she said, while looking at everyone. They all clapped, in honour or something. “Elizabeth?” I said, not loud enough for everyone around me to hear, but I was wrong.
2 ‘Lords’ looked at me. “That is Lady Cowell, she’s of a wealthy family, so you have to show some respect!” one of them screamed at me. Now, everyone was looking at this commoner, me, including Elizabeth, who seemed shocked to see me here. “But she’s not happy? Isn’t that more important then having wealth?” I said in return, and Lieutenant Clark just sighed.
“Do you even know her?” said the other lord, who was standing next to me. “Yeah, I travelled with her for a bit before arriving here. She also got me a place to stay.” I said, and everyone just gasped, I didn’t think nothing of it, and just turned towards the door. “Hey, Lieutenant Clark, where is Marble? My horse.” I asked him, with a nonchalant smile.
“Your horse is this way, let’s go Jak.” said Clark, will rubbing his forehead. We both left the snobbish lords and went towards the stables. “Why is Elizabeth dressed like that?” I asked Clark, attaching my sword to my belt. “She’s the daughter of my superior. She has to be dressed like that, to show off wealth. That’s what I think nobles do.” said Clark, looking at me while still walking.
“Clark, she doesn’t look happy.” I said, with a frown. He sighed, like always. “I know she isn’t, I was Captain, but I was demoted to Lieutenant for helping her run away.” he said and then he stopped outside the stables. “Help her this time... She needs to be free, but you can’t take her away right away. She has more guards protecting her, and I’m not allowed to be near her.” he said, ushering a stable boy to bring my horse out.
“Come back in a months time, take her away from here. And remember that letter I gave you? That’s from her, read it when you get out. Oh, and don’t go near Fort Umma, something is strange going on here.” he said, giving me a bag of gold coins. “Thanks.” I said, getting onto my horse, which already had all of my possessions on it.
-Chapter Four- - Spoiler:
It was early morning, the morning dew still on the grass. The sun, still hasn’t fully awoken from his slumber. I was sitting on the saddle of my horse, and I was looking at Fort Tanko. I could barely see any life coming from the Fort, it was isolated, with not a single breath of life coming to it. I looked at it with a frown, it wasn’t a place for me to live in. Plus, they had horrible manners.
I looked back at the path, it was narrow, and had tall grass, taller then Marble. But I had to continue, continue with just buying time. I tugged on the reins to move Marble towards North. It was leading to a small town. It wasn’t a perfect place, tales of murdering scum come from that town. The people of Ureck called it “Devil’s basin”. I’m not quite sure why that is, but Ma & Pa always said to stay away from it.
I continued on my way, the surrounding view never changed. Trees and tall grass. Maybe a small animal or two. It was infested with beasts, and maybe even robbers. I knew to stay on the path, but since it wasn’t on the patrol route anymore, it became infested with fiends. We made it slowly to where we needed to go, but I just needed to rest for a moment, and I believe Marble was hungry.
We detoured off the path, and into a small patch of grass, located just 3 kilometres off the path. I got off Marble and allowed her to graze the grass. I sat against a tree, and decided to take a small nap. I kept my sword with me as well, right next to my right hand. I slowly closed my eyes and dozed off.
It was the same dream again. The dream of death, the village aflame. Me getting stabbed by a girl, who has a tear in her eye. But this time, there was another man. A man lying dead, next to me. He wasn’t looking towards me, so I didn’t know what he looked like. But he had dirty blond hair. He had dirty clothing, and had a small sword in his hand.
A pool of blood surrounded him, and he laid lifeless right next to me. The monsters who where leading this assault laughed at me, and then the sharp pain come quickly. That is when I awoke. But not to the sight of only Marble, but to the sight of a small green man. He had a scar, going across his nose. He had leather armour on, and looked like a warrior.
“What?..” I murmured, without gaining the awareness of the green freak. He had pointy ears, and a leather cap on. So I wasn’t sure if he was bald or not. I looked at my right hand, and saw my sword still there. I took this upon myself and took the beast by surprise. “Halt!” I screamed, blade in hand, and standing over head of the beast. He looked at me with giant red eyes. In shock, he wasn’t sure what to do.
Then I heard a scream, coming from the east, and I decided to look at where the sound was coming from. A bigger green beast was standing there. But he had steel armour instead of leather. I could just take a guess and think he was a stronger, and a higher up then the one I was confronting. I backed away from the little green freak and looked at him again. Then I looked at Marble, who was dead on the ground. I was furious with what they did to her, but I couldn’t let that take over, for I might have got myself killed.
I looked back at the little green freak, and saw he tried to sneak away. I caught him by the back of his leather vest. “Hold on! I have a few questions, and you owe me!” I screamed, jerking him back to me. The steel armoured green freak just looked at him. Not even giving me a look, or a word. They started to speak, in a weird language. I couldn’t understand what they where saying.
Then the one I was holding onto looked at me. “W-W-What a-a-are y-y-your q-q-questions h-h-human?” stuttered the little one. “First, what are you, and second, what happened to my horse?” I responded, with a hint of rage. The little one looked at the steel armoured guy, then back at me. “I’m a Goblin...and what happened to your horse...it wasn’t my fault!” screamed the goblin, struggling to get free.
I looked at him, not believing his lie about the horse, but then I looked at the other goblin. Who just happen to sigh. “Your a Goblin? Then you must owner the goblin code then!” I said, putting the tip of my blade towards the neck of the goblin I was holding onto. He looked at me, with his eyes widen. “B-b-but, I didn’t do it!” he was stuttering. Could be because I was using too much force on him, but I needed to know what was going on.
The steel goblin yelled something in goblin language. Then, the little one looked back at me. “My name is Ju’Ma...I am in your service now...” he mumbled, basically crossing his arms. I looked at him, and then I let go of my hold. I put my sword away and got the bags off the dead horse. “Carry those, and I’ll be keeping my eye on you. Plus, who is that guy?” I said, pointing a finger at him. “That is my father, warrior leader of the Northern Goblin Tribe.” he said, with a frown and looking away from the direction of his father. “Well, we better get going shall we?” I said, starting to walk away.
The Goblin Ju’Ma just started to follow, but he was huffing and puffing most of the way back to the path. It wasn’t even 3 kilometres and he was tired. Ju’Ma fell down the moment we got back to the path. He wasn’t much of a physical worker. I just looked at him, and held out a hand. “Need some help?” I said, offering my hand to help him out. He looked at me, with confused eyes, but then they turned into tears. “No!” he screamed, slapping my hand away. He got back up and started to walk ahead of me. “Ju’Ma right?” I said, walking right behind him.
“Yes, it’s Ju’Ma of the Marrow tribe.” he said, hunched over, holding all the weight on his back. “Marrow? Isn’t that a bit far from here?” I said, with a confused look on my face. I haven’t been to the Marrow province before, but I heard it was filled with cliffs and rocks. He didn’t respond to me, since we didn’t really know each other. “What’s your name?” he asked, without turning his head. “The names Jak.” I said, with a hint of pride. I took pride in my name, why? Cause it was my grandfathers name. My grandfather was the founder of Ureck.
We slowly made it to the main path, but there was trouble. Both directions, covered with bandits. I didn’t know what to do, but Ju’Ma did. He quickly ran across the main path, into a small cave. I quickly went after him. “Where does this lead to?” I called out, He didn’t respond, but I took a guess. It most likely lead to the other side of the mountain. Lucky for me, it did.
It took us 30 minutes to cross the cave. We met a lot of nasty things in there, but we got by it. Once we got out the other side, we saw the province of Marrow. How could I tell? The giant peninsula. It had the shape of a skull at the front.
Tales of cannibals where told about the lands of Marrow. Tribes, both human and non-human. Eat their own kind. It was a odd thing to do. But I could understand why, I think. Ju’Ma was headed to the main path, towards the Marrow province. I looked at him, and then grabbed his arm. “We’re not headed that way.” I said, with a frown. He just looked at me. He wasn’t sure where we where headed. I told him, in full detail, how my current journey. He wasn’t too thrilled by it, but decided it was better then heading home in shame.
~Chapter five~ -coming soon-
