| Subject: Kaori Tachibana [Konohagakure Genin] Thu Jun 10, 2010 8:24 pm | |
| Name: Kaori Tachibana Nickname/Alias: Cacao. Age: 13. Age Appearance: Early teens? Appearance: - Spoiler:
Standing at the hardly daunting height of 150 centimeters, the often pensive-seeming Kaori is a pretty, though far from stunning young girl. When her expression isn’t one of wistful daydreamer lost in thought, she is often curious or intensely concentrated. It is generally considered a rare occasion for Kaori to genuinely smile, which is all the more of a pity – on the times she does, it’s the sort to light up a room. Normally, one is more likely to receive a coy, knowing grin at best. Pale-skinned, with soft brown eyes and with long black hair braided down her back, Kaori is short only traditional dress (and a few years) to appear as a Yamato Nadeshiko, with her slender, willowy build. In fact, her clothing is pretty much what sets her apart from the role – black shorts with a light blue pattern matching her plain black T-shirt with a light blue blazer left undone overtop. She doesn’t usually wear jewelry or other fancy girly stuff, but that’s more of a matter of not having the opportunity rather than not wanting to. Gender: Female. Skill Level: D Ninja Rank: Genin. Village: Konohagakure Birthplace: Amegakure Previous Village: Amegakure. Clan/Bloodline: N/A. Personality: Kaori, first and foremost, is confident. Not in the sense of a feeling of superiority, for that could be crushed through another person’s ability, nor in the sense of invulnerability. Kaori has a solid understanding of her nature, her skills and her limits, and is constantly riding the fine line between pushing them and pushing herself, and because of this is generally aware of the challenges she can or cannot overcome. She isn’t the type to fool herself into thinking she can do something she can’t, but she generally won’t worry too much about things just because they’re difficult. Her opinions on other people vary, like most people’s do. In general, though, she views them as a curiosity. What makes people tick, how they respond in different situations, and the reasoning for the way they do what they do are all fascinating subjects to Kaori. She’s usually quite subtle about this, and it can be difficult to tell if she’s genuinely interested in someone as a person or is using them as a social experiment for those who aren’t familiar with her. It’s usually safe to assume both in varying measures. Despite this, she can be reasonably sociable when she wants to be. Though she’s hardly the life of a party (usually), she could easily be considered ‘cute’ in the sense of an adorable little sister and has some of the less cautious adults enraptured with her mixture of politeness and apparent innocence. Despite her somewhat naïve image, Kaori is a rock-solid reliable figure for advice and an unspeaking ear for vented feelings and secrets. Ironically, she isn’t much of one for gossip, and most likely wouldn’t even reveal her worst enemy’s secrets under threat of torture. Though her primary focus is on her skills as a ninja, she also regularly practices calligraphy and writing poetry in private to keep in better touch with her intellectual side. Though not particularly ashamed of this, it isn’t really something she feels is worth sharing and she usually keeps it to herself. When the subject comes to her past, she is secretive and frequently coy, citing that “It’s a secret” or that she doesn’t remember to avoid what she deems unnecessary questions or pity. The only person who likely knows as much (and probably more) about her history than she does is the Hokage themself. Goals : To find out more about her past before coming to Konoha. To prove that Fuuinjutsu can be as useful as the fundamental ninja arts. Alignment: Neutral with good leanings. Canon Personality : ? Skill Specialty : Dominant: Fuuinjutsu/Seal Knowledge Recessive: Elemental Affinity: Dominant: Lightning. Recessive : History: - Spoiler:
It was raining… who am I kidding, it was always raining. Pitter-pattering on the roof of the old house, the rain’s incessant drone was the only noise breaking the silence. The air reeked, though whether it was from the rain, new life or death, no-one knew or cared. A man of twenty-seven, dark of hair and eyes watched as the midwife wrapped his newborn child in rags. It was… pathetic. They were pathetic. It was… such a waste.
”You failed. I don’t need to tell you the consequences of this. Get out. You have until morning.” It wasn’t unusual, here in Amegakure, for a midwife to be cast out upon a botched delivery, but this one had been successful… even if it came at a cost. The man didn’t care, and knew that the day would be breaking in a little more than two hours. Not that it would seem any different from the night, for the sun would never break through the clouds. Never again…
”… Why? You said you’d stay with me forever, not that I’d be left to clean up your trash…”
The sun rose, and the pair was gone. From shack to shack, run down inn to convenience store, they eked out a living, somehow. Money was scarce, but the girl never went without enough food to safely survive. She grew into a toddler on the outskirts of Amegakure, but it wasn’t to last. Anonymity was safety. The price of failure was death. The girl didn’t know what it meant when the woman who had taken care of her these past four years handed her off to a passing caravan in what would be just minutes before her dying moments. She didn’t understand the screams left behind as thugs hired by her father put the midwife to death, or why she was left alone with these strangers heading to a place that she didn’t know.
It was raining… and only she could see it. Rolling fields of green were just a wet, hazy blur. The caravan crossed into the Fire Country, and Kaori was left to the care of an orphanage. Her status as a refugee was the only thing given. No name, place of origin, possessions. Her new life began… from the ground up, as it always had been. Of course it was raining, it always was.
Time passed, and a time of choosing came. If she was to make anything of herself, she had to start young. What did she want to make of herself? Calling her in from her contemplation of the clouds, a worker from the orphanage asked her this. Pursing her lips into a thoughtful frown, she simply pointed. The worker’s eyes followed, eventually falling upon a raven-haired boy bearing the forehead protector of Konoha.
”You want to be a Ninja?”the worker queried. It needn’t have been asked… six months later, she was enrolled in the academy on ‘probation’. If she didn’t perform well enough to earn scholarships and help pay for her own education, she was out. Needing an identity to enroll herself, she took on the name of Kaori and began her studies.
While from the outside she didn’t seem to be trying very hard at all, her thoughts were always on her work, and her academic studies progressed to a degree where she was in the top percentile for her class. Her athletics, while less than stellar, were also growing steadily despite the fact she never seemed to practice. In fact, the girl had taken to practicing at night, honing her skills under less than favourable conditions, just like she knew she would one day have to use them.
Exams rolled around, and, much to the surprise of those around her, she not only passed but aced them… if barely. When it came to the more practical tests that would allow her to officially become a Genin, a combination of bad luck and illness would hold her back.
The extra year went to good use, as she worked furiously on her ability to control her chakra to overcome the difficulties in front of her. It was around this time that she began to realize that each chakra had a specific ‘feel’ to it. They had always been there, but she’d never really noticed in earnest. Her fellow students, the teachers… more in the teachers than her peers… had peculiar ‘feelings’ to them that she had never felt before, wavery and insubstantial. She continued her last year while attempting to cope with and ignore this in turns, shutting her emotions inside of her in an attempt to force discipline upon these feelings… and the creepy nightmares that came with them. Fnally graduated from the academy… only to become a teacherless Ronin. At least now… it wasn’t raining anymore. RP Sample: - Spoiler:
Blurs… black, white, red. Slowly, the world came into clarity, but still, it wasn’t right. The wind shifted, and her vision was filled with a flood of carrion. A face out in the fog, it was familiar, but too obscured to be made clear. Sick to her stomach, Kaori found herself lurching towards it against her will. She didn’t want to see this, but… she did. She wanted to, she… had to see it.
Who was this apparition which haunted her? The carrion circled, landed, and began pecking at the face of their victim. In a rage that was altogether distant, feeling like it was not hers at all but that of some alien force, Kaori watched as she scattered the birds and reached the figure, peering into it’s face. It had none, but she knew inside that it did, and that it was important. Reaching down, shaking it’s shoulder as if to stir it into life, she awoke, a middle-aged woman’s face looking into her own. Her hair was once dark, like Kaori’s own, but now was streaked with gray and careworn.
”Hey, wake up, sleepyhead. This isn’t like you at all, being late like this. Did you have a bad dream? You were muttering something about…”
”It nothing. I was just stressed over exams for so long, I guess it’s catching up with me, that’s all,” the girl assured her, lying through her teeth. It was pretty obvious, as she wasn’t much of a liar, but the reason ‘why’ she would be covering it up was left up in the air.
”Well, you really should be getting ready to go. Didn’t you say that today was your graduation ceremony? You wouldn’t want to be late and miss it, or you might not be able to find a teacher…”
”A sensei…” the girl interrupted, and, surprisingly, the interruption was taken in stride. It was a special day at the orphanage, one of the first times in nearly a generation that they had someone rise from their ranks to become something.
”Right, that. You might not be able to find one if you’re late, they might all be ta~ken. You wouldn’t want to have to wait another year to graduate, would you?” the woman chided as Kaori sat up to prepare for her day.
”I guess you’re right.” she admitted reluctantly as she got dressed, grabbed her bag and left without waiting for breakfast or saying goodbye. That was normal, by now, something to be expected, and the others were hardly surprised. Kaori was a ‘good kid’, but she’d never really been one of them. Now, she was leaving to a world they could only wonder about.
Breathing in the fresh morning air, the girl made her way into Konahagakure’s village proper. Stopping at a fruit stand, she waited until the other customers were done, observing their feigned indecision and haggling with the faintest ghost of a smile. When they were done, she approached the jovial-looking attendant, a young man only a year or two older than she was, with a polite bow.
”Same as usual, Cacao?” the attendant inquired with a chuckle. Kaori merely nodded, preparing to place the money required for her purchase down on the vendor’s stand. To her surprise, the boy pushed her hand, and her money with it, away as he handed her a fresh orange. ”They’re in season, and isn’t it a special day for you? You shouldn’t have to worry about money. Well…” the boy blushed. How could he…
”Arigato Gozaimasu,” Kaori chimed in with another bow, taking the orange as she turned to leave. She saw, but didn’t respond to the hand the boy stretched out in her direction, as if imploring her not to leave. At least, she didn’t until she was just at the end of casual earshot. ”Maybe another time.”
With that, the girl picked up her pace, began unpeeling the orange, and was gone from sight. Despite having been originally later than she expected, Kaori found herself arriving at the ceremony just in time. Plenty of people were already there, but it hadn’t started quite yet. The only problem left… was how to find a seat.
Special Characteristics: Skill Based: Chakra Control: These users have excellent chakra control, which means they waste little chakra in battle. People with excellent chakra control usually have average or below average chakra. Since the amount of chakra is smaller, it is easier to master control over it.
