| Name: Kouhaku Tetubun Nickname/Alias: Gargoyle (he hates this one but still would rather use it than his own name) Kuromeru (meaning black) Age: 16 Age Appearance: 15 in terms of height, 19 in his face due to stress aging Appearance: Kouhaku is a young boy who has an aged face but is short for his age, making people assume him to be a wide range of ages. His body is built for fast, hard striking combat, he has lean, strong muscles, and his legs are more dense than most people’s, as he has to compensate for his arms being unusable. His skin is a light tan, his hair is a deep black, and his eyes are an odd mix of green, light brown, hazel, and bright gold. His clothing is odd, it’s all deep black, same color as his hair. He wears a cross between a straight jacket and a long coat; The top part is just like a straight jacket except that all the buckles are in the front, the sleeves are open on the end, and there is a collar that has buckles on it that is tight to his neck and goes right up to beneath his chin. The lower half of it goes down to his ankles, and hangs loosely. Throughout the lining of it there are little pockets as if it could be modified to carry small armor plates throughout it. Beneath this is a special, skin-tight, black shirt that has a zipper running off-centered on the front, and one zipper running up each arm; and lastly he wears a pair of fitted latex gloves that zip down the side then buckle. The pants are very basic black jounin style pants, and he wears special, armored, black tabi boots. Under the clothes is Kouhaku’s greatest secret, the arms he keeps hidden, and the seals that cover his body. His arms, having both been severed off were replaced with his clan’s signature stone and sand prosthetics, but as they are held together with chakra and moved with chakra they take a significantly complex seal system that goes from the tips the fingers of the prosthetics all the way to Kouhaku’s waist, some to bind it together and to the body, and some to draw the necessary chakra to hold them together, and yet others binding his very life to that of a beast. Gender: Male Skill Level: D Ninja Rank: Genin Village: Kumogakure Birthplace: Exact Location Unknown (border between two unnamed countries) Previous Village: N/A Clan/Bloodline: Tetsubun Personality: Kouhaku is a introverted loner, all too often he’ll withdraw from people that are his friends and basically abandon them simply because he can’t think around other, and that for him is bad. Kouhaku’s fighting style is as much a show of how he thinks as anything else, when he fights he’ll separate himself and attack when people pull back or when no one else is attacking, he says it’s because he is afraid of hitting his teammates and that is part of it, but it’s more that he’s worried they would just get in his way. When he’s actually angered he’s like a tempest, he would gladly slit someone’s throat when he’s angry just to shut them up, but deep down beyond his anger and his depressive mood he’s actually a very nice guy, and could never even harm an ally without very good cause, and still he would feel horrible for it. This strong moral core is actually a challenge for him in and of itself, he’ll do anything to protect those around him but he has an extreme fear of death that causes internal battles in him between jumping into danger and running away from it at every moment. Due to all this mixed with his introversion he often hides his feeling and thoughts from all around his putting on an aura of not caring and he rarely smiles. Goals: To protect purity, even if that means succumbing to corruption himself. Alignment: Neutral Canon Personality: Itachi (Sadly) Skill Specialty: Dominant: Taijutsu Recessive: Elemental Affinity: Dominant: N/A (Clan Earth and Wind, both at density of a dominant but both considered a recessive and Sand would be the dominant, unlocked at Chunin.) Recessive: Earth (locked as separate from Wind till Jounin), Wind (locked as separate from Earth till S-rank) History: The Birth of a Prophecy Kouhaku’s story starts before he was born, in the deserts of the sand country where he was in fact conceived. His parents, like most all the other members of his clan were wanderers, traveling in search of jobs they to do in trade for supplies for the clan. After the couple knew that they was a child on the way they began to head back to the home of the clan. Well they were traveling back, however, they were attacked, and being in the desert, surrounded by sand they would have been at the advantage, only there were six attackers and one of them that should be fighting. After fighting for a while the man told his wife to leave, take the supply cart and run, and that he’d try to hold them off, she knew there was no other option and she did. She managed to get away and make it back to the clan’s home, where they took care of her until the birth of the child, only when she actually gave birth it was twins, and she died in the process of giving birth putting them both under the care of the entire clan. A Raising of Rags Kouhaku and his brother were both taken care of in such a way that they’d survive, but no one really ‘wanted’ to take care of them, so once they were old enough they went through their joining ritual where they each lost their left arm, and had it replaced with a sand and stone prosthetic. After a few more years they lived on their own and were supplied a small amount of food daily. This was all the attention they were given by the rest of their clan, and they stayed together at all times and took care of each other as such. They often would go on exploration through the enormous underground temple their clan guarded so intently. The clan itself claimed that the chamber they did their joining ritual in was the center of the temple but the boys knew that in fact it was only the front and top of the temple as they had explored deeper and farther than other members of their clan wanted to and as the clan allowed none but members entry there were none that had gone as far as them, well all but the founders. They found many catacombs that were previously un-documented, but one day they entered a room that WAS in fact in the center of the temple, and it was the first room they had trouble getting to, as many pathways on their way to it had collapsed. As they entered the massive room and were amazed at the look of it: They found themselves in a huge sand filled pit, the walls around it were covered in an intricate design, a design that was reminiscent of a seal that went down below the level of the sand. As they entered the room and stepped onto the sand there was a cracking sound and suddenly the hallway that they entered from collapsed, sealing them in, Kouhaku suddenly ran over and started to try to dig their way back out but his brother was more interested in the designs on the wall when suddenly the collapsed rubble from the hallway gave again and buried Kouhaku’s right side, breaking and slowly crushing his right arm, he screamed in pain and the scream shocked his brother and as he jumped he cut his finger in the wall. This slowly began activating the complex seal; this he didn’t notice, however, and ran to his brother’s side, clearing off rubble and pulling him out as quickly as he could. Then suddenly the sand sunk in, almost as if a large amount was sucked out from below, this knocked Kouhaku’s brother over and he fell on his back before the sand exploded up in the center of the chamber and then reformed into a stone and sand human shape, weak but formed, it was in fact the one clan legends referred to as the sand wraith; the founder and first member of the clan. This meeting was an interesting one and in its process Kouhaku’s brother lost his life, the fabled sand wraith disappeared forever, and Kouhaku lost his arm but gained a new prosthetic, a summoning contract and a very complex seal. (See RP sample for the events of this meeting.) As he stumbled out of the temple with two immobile arms of sand and stone many clan members ran over to see what happened and find out how a child’s limited chakra could handle two prosthetics. Soon after the incident a visitor from Kumo took interest in the boy, seeing potential he paid to have the boy properly trained in both the fighting methods of the boys own clan and then as a shinobi of Kumo. He took on quick, quickly learning the dance-like fighting style of his clan, and altering it to match to his lack of control of his arms and also his heavier torso, due to the prosthetic arms. A Change to Riches After the training from his clan the man that took interest in him had him transferred to Kumo, to train as a member of Kumo there and live with him. Here he was pampered, every want was taken care of and he devoted his time to learning as the man that was taking care of him wanted. Soon he took the tests to officially become a shinobi and passed with flying colors, he was now a Genin and as such would join the rest of the Kumo force, and finally his life would mean something, but at the same time this was a place he wasn’t used to and he somewhat resented being here and as such didn’t make any good friends and would rarely even talk to his fellow Genin. Two brothers, twins identical, walked down a dimly lit corridor; they were in a huge underground complex, all alone except for each other. They knew that there was something down here, but didn’t know what exactly it was, though they would soon find out. As they walked, the sand on the stone floor beneath their feet was ground and crushed as they stepped and the thin, stale air was disturbed by their presence. They soon came upon a massive chamber with a very intricately designed seal covering the entirety of the visible inside of the chamber, but also the floor of the chamber was all sand, and where exactly the true bottom was wasn’t apparent. They both noted that the style of the apparent seal was very similar to the seals that the rest of their clan used on a daily basis.
Upon entering the room the hallway they had just been in suddenly gave a popping sound and then the roof seemed to shake and then a moment later the roof gave way in the hallway and large chunks of stone and a lot of sand fell through, sealing off the passageway they came in from, and also their only way out. Up to now neither had talked but now they were faced with an impasse, and one they had different ways of reacting to. Kauhaku freaked “NO! What are we gonna do!? We have to find a way out!” “Calm down, brother; we’ll figure this out and-” “What do you mean calm down!? Screw that, I’m getting out of here!” Kouhaku then immediately knelt down at the base of the collapse and began to tear away at the rubble there, hoping to get through. His brother however shook his head and sighed before going to look at the seal. He had been interested in seals and had never seen one this intricate and large before; he wondered what its purpose was, and how far down the walls were, and how far down them the seal stretched. He noted a small protrusion that was blade-like, it seemed this was a central portion of the seal.
Suddenly while Kouhaku was digging the rubble gave and more collapsed on him, the weight began to crush his right arm, breaking the bones and tearing the flesh slowly and painfully. Kouhaku screamed shrilly after the initial shock, startling his brother, and causing him to cut his hand on the protrusion; he then ran over to his brother and began clearing away rubble from his body then yanking him out before it collapsed more. “Gah! My arm! It feels like it’s on fire!” “You’ll be… fine brother… fine! You hear me?” “GEH! MY ARM! I can’t move it, brother is it still there? Did I lose another arm!?” “It’s… still there brother, let me think for a minute, ok? I just need to th-” Suddenly the sand beneath them caved in a good distance this sudden drop caused Kouhaku’s brother to fall over, and then suddenly in the center of the room the sand seemed to explode into the air, then collecting back at the surface and beginning to take a form, as this happened the sand below it was drawn In and it soon took a human form.
Kouhaku was lying on the floor in immense pain and his brother was staring at the form taking shape before him, he had heard legends about the founder of the clan attaining a state that was god-like, a body of pure sand and stone. When he saw the form he knew then it was him, a man that had disappeared into those tunnels years before “You’re-” “Wraith, call me Wraith,” the form said, “for I have long forgotten my true name. Was it you that broke the seal boy?” The form’s apparent face seemed to be looking at Kouhaku’s brother as he spoke. “I- I believe it was, wait, your seal?” the boy was curious now. “You, what, sealed yourself away? Why would you do that?” The form then looked down before speaking again. “I was sealing away something far stronger, a beast that was locked in here I released on accident and had to use all my knowledge about seals to force it away, but I had to seal myself too. Releasing me has released it, and I have to act before it awakes and awakens its children. My problem is I’m in the state I was after sealing us away and I don’t have the chakra to do it again now… I would need to kill one of you to do it, and the other would die in the process…”
Kouhaku’s brother was shocked at this, he didn’t know how to respond and started just talking randomly. “Woah, hold on isn’t there another way?” Suddenly Kouhaku grunted and spoke again, “Brother, who is that?” Then Kouhaku’s brother picked himself up and went back to his brother’s side, he was losing a lot of blood and was passing in and out of consciousness. “Shh, Kouhaku, there’s nothing to worry about alright? Everything’s gonna be fine.” He then looked back to the form and said, “Can’t you seal his wounds?” The form looked back up and then turned around before speaking; “I could, but it would be pointless, for one his arm is lost, and he’s going to die anyway.”
Kouhaku’s brother stood up and raised his voice to the man who was standing in front of him, saying “What the hell is wrong with you, there has to be an alternate solution! Maybe you could just-” “No,” the wraith cut him off, “that is the only way, it needs to be sealed away, it my only choice, our only-” “Let me finish before you cut me off why don’t you?” this annoyed the man before him but he turned to listen as he couldn’t help but to respect the fact that the boy demanded respect even from him. “What if you were to form some kind of seal that kept it asleep and maybe immobilized it, what about that?” the man started shaking his head and was about to speak when Kouhaku suddenly spoke again saying, “link… the hearts… if you link… the creature’s heart… with another’s… or to just a seal… you could maybe… con- contr- c-” suddenly he slipped away again, passing out, and Kouhaku dropped back to his brother’s side.
The man suddenly spoke, his voice slightly different now; “That… could work, that’s a good idea, I might be able to do that… but it would require… at least one life of full strength and me… and that boy isn’t strong enough. I’ll need your life, I’m sorry, and he’ll be bound with this beast for the rest of his live. Do you understand that?” The boy’s face grew pale as he looked down at Kouhaku, knowing this was the only option that had promise. “Ok, let’s do it, now where is this thing?” The man nodded slightly and looked down; “below…”
Suddenly the sand began to clear out at the man’s command but a platform of stone took shape below the two brothers before, the man held it in place as the sand cleared, revealing a giant of a creature below them “Geez… what IS that?” the boy said, still holding his twin brother. “That is the king sand worm, the creature this temple was built to hold from what I can tell, it commands a horde of creatures, all spawned from it. If this works then that and all its creations will be at the beck and call of your brother and anyone else he chooses.” Kouhaku’s brother didn’t care about that, he was worried about his brother’s life, not the specifics of what was next, and he blurted out, “Let’s just get this over with, ok? If I gotta die then so be it but let’s not drag it out … now, what do I do?” “…Say goodbye.”
The brother shook Kouhaku, who then woke up again, “Brother, I’m sorry, I’m leaving… good bye.” This simple and almost confusing way of saying goodbye reminded the man just how young these children were they were in many ways quite mature and very smart for their age and that threw the man who was about to kill one of them and change the life of the other forever. He began to feel bad for it but knew there was no choice in the matter. “Shall we begin?” The man began to form hand seals in the form of two separate bodies, one with the boys and the other with the beast, then, the one with the boys took the hand of kouhaku’s brother and cut it, spilling his blood and using it to keep Kouhaku alive and as a connection between them, he then formed a seal covering the boy’s entire body. “Here’s exactly what’s going to happen, You will die as I seal your chakra away in both the beast and your brother, at the same you’re your body and blood will be made into a second stone and sand prosthetic, along with this will be his flesh and blood, the remainder of his arm. The seal I have formed on you is the basis for the seal that will be on your brother and the beast. That’s all that matters, now I need you to clear your mind and think only of your brother, ok?”
He felt horrible for this but it had to be done, or so he kept telling himself. He then formed a spike and rammed it through the top of the young boy’s spine, killing him instantly, but at the same moment he sealed away the boy’s chakra and sand shredded and crushed his body into a red, gooey mess before also shredding and crushing Kouhaku’s arm then reforming into the prosthetic, as this happened the huge beast began to awaken and squirm, it was upside down, and it was trying to burrow away it seemed but it was still too sleepy to get away so it just squirmed. It was mostly out of sight but the half conscious Kouhaku could see an apparently hard, rock coated tail that was huge.
As the prosthetic completed the seals had begun forming on him and had already covered his chest and back and then began to spread onto his right arm, and the seal on the beast was completed. After this the seals that held his left prosthetic, this covered that arm and his left shoulder, linked with the new seal system to create one, massive, yet beautiful, seal network that covered his entire torso minus his head and neck. Now all that was left was the final linking between them, but first the man that was wraith cleared the rubble from the previously blocked passage and placed the boy in it, Kouhaku awoke as he hit the floor, he was dazed and confused, he could feel his brother as if he was nearby by not see him, and this strange figure of sand was floating before him. “What… happened, where is Brother?” The man looked to the side, somewhat sad and then said, “He said goodbye, and now he is gone, he did it to save you, and will now live in your heart, and your arm.” Kouhaku suddenly noticed his lack of control in either of his arms , and then noticed that both his arms were now earthen. “I’m sorry but I had no choice, this is the only way to do this, I must go soon to but before I do, I’d like to know your names if I could.” “I am Kouhaku, and my brother… my brother…” suddenly a pain in the boy’s head hit him all at once, it seemed when the rubble fell on him a particularly heavy stone hit him on the head and caused him to forget the name of his own very family, his brother’s name and his parent’s names were lost to him, but oddly he somehow found this a relief, so he said with a slight smile, “I don’t remember.”
The wraith then drew back and called out to the beast saying this: “I failed to lock you away so now I bind you to a human, your power is matched only by your rage, but now know this if you destroy this boy shall know, and the seals you wear are linked, he can destroy you when he wishes, and if he dies, so to do you, so through the fact that your life depends on his, and his view of you, I suggest you make an offer of protection!” By this time the worm was thrashing about but suddenly it stopped and a deep gravely voice came from below, asking a question in the form of a single word “Like?” The man smiled, “A contract, you protect him he doesn’t kill you.” “Fine,” came the response, “but our arrangement will require me be freed. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to get myself killed.” The man nodded to the boy and spoke again saying, “Your contract will be on the boy’s very skin, his back contains the proper agreement and work up, since it is of his skin he need not sign it, and you must only agree to be there when he calls.” There was a deep chuckle from below. “It is a summoning contract, and he is far to weak to summon me, he can’t summon anything without control of his arms!” “In time he’ll gain the control he needs.” “I doubt he’ll ever have the strength to summon me but if he can ever call my children shall answer in my stead, unless I am needed absolutely.” “Very well beast, you can leave.” Suddenly the floor below gave open allowing the giant to burrow its way out, and as it did the man put last chakra to fully bind the seals, and at that he faded into non existence, as his body disintegrated revealing a human heart and brain behind all that sand, ones that now were dry and shriveled.
The boy stood and began to stumble out, realizing he didn’t even know how to control the seals, but then suddenly a small seal on his new wrist released and a scroll popped out, it was instructions on who to summon when the time came, how to prepare himself for it and also how to work the seal that bound the live of the beast to himself, in case he ever would need to kill him.
